Ben Poole (UK)
When you hear comments such as the above from two of the worlds’ greatest
guitar players and some of the leading UK guitar and blues magazines you just know
they have heard something very special. Twenty-five year old Ben Poole is currently
being described as the most exciting young blues/roots artist to come out of the UK for a long, long time. A talented guitarist, singer and songwriter with obvious blues/rock/soul/R’n’B/country and Pop influences it’s hard to categorise the style and genre of this young man’s music. The past few years has seen Ben Poole’s profile raise far beyond expectation, his name cropping up regularly in Europe’s biggest selling guitar magazine Total Guitar who named Ben as “the guitarist to watch out for”. A Ben Poole Band live show is certainly very energetic and not to be missed, giving the audience just what they want, an audience likes to be entertained and Ben and the band never fail to deliver.
Ben was voted ‘Best Newcomer’ by Blues Matters magazine in their 2011 readers poll, was nominated for three awards at the British Blues Awards in 2011, including Best Young Artist and Best Original Song and represented the UK at the 2012 European Blues Challenge to be held in Berlin in March last year, Ben coming third out of nineteen entries from nineteen different countries.
Following on from the success of his debut EP EVERYTHING I WANT, Ben has now released his debut studio album entitled LET’S GO UPSTAIRS, released through his website, the album is receiving heavy airplay and rave reviews.
The album was produced by Grammy Award winning producer Isaac Nossel and the new CD marks a move towards Ben Poole being known not just a superb guitarist but also a great singer and song writer and this is what producer Isaac has really bought out in him. On the album seven of the songs will be Ben Poole originals, two are co-writes with producer Isaac and three are covers including the Otis Redding/Steve Cropper song Mr. Pitiful and the Anne Peebles original I’m Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down with which Paul Young had a top 10 hit way back in 1984. Joining Ben on the album are Ben’s regular band-mates British Blues Award nominee Alan Taylor on drums and Barry Pethers on bass, and he’s also joined by Ruf Records recording artist Dani Wilde on backing vocals on six of the twelve tracks.
Over the past few years Ben has toured regularly across Europe and appeared at some of the biggest festivals across the continent including two appearances at the 2011 Glastonbury Festival in the UK, Download Festival in the UK, Sierre Blues Festival in Switzerland, Culemborg Festival in Holland, Schoppingen Blues Festival in Germany. He was also to be seen blowing away classic rock fans at Rhodes Rock Festival in Greece in both 2011 and 2012 and will also play at the Legends of Rock UK Weekender on this coming March tour, both events supported by Planet Rock radio. Ben and the band
are regulars on the blues circuit all over Europe and in September 2012 played to over 6000 people at the Holland Breda Barst Festival (see photo) and in 2013 they will play at the Playing With Fire Festival in Nebraska, USA and also at several soon to be announced large pop festivals across Europe. As a taster before the festival season starts, please see March UK dates attached.
